The Influence of Nature And The Goal Of Beauty - Beauty is Beautiful

Reflection Question 1

What are the sources or influences on the music/art performances that you produce? What is the goal or purpose of your art/music performances and why do you produce it? What are the unique cognitive skills that you employ, and how do they help you achieve your creation goal? Cite specific examples and provide clear evidence for your statements.

Nature provides a wealth of subject matter for an artist to investigate. My art finds its genesis in nature. From a microscopic cell to a nebula millions of light years away, my imagery mimics nature in unusual visual metaphors. Nature is a powerful influence. Emerson says, “The love of beauty is taste. The creation of beauty is art.” And that is my goal, beauty. Presenting nature’s beauty (sounds like a lame skin care lotion) in extraordinary ways is for me more of a process than an intentional objective. The visual outcome depends upon the creative process, how the materials are manipulated. I guess you could call it shake and bake art, much like when a potter is in search for that spectacular glaze or determining the correct process for the creation of crystalline formations. Yet, the artist is in control and determines the process as well as the final product. The unexpected is expected and indeed is welcomed. And the resulting imagery is unbelievably alluring.
